Chinese law professor Yuan Hongbing lives in exile in Sydney, Australia. He is an outspoken critic of China's communist regime, an advocate for democracy, for Falun Gong practitioners and author of a book titled “Taiwan Disaster.” He saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre, and gave context to the importance of Shen Yun’s cultural revival. [Yuan Hongbing, Chinese Law Professor]: “Our China is now facing a serious problem. This problem pertains to cultural reconstruction. The worst harm brought to China by the communist party is probably the destruction it has brought to our 5000 years of traditional culture.” He says it is almost impossible now to see real traditional Chinese art in the mainland. [Yuan Hongbing, Chinese Law Professor]: “Now basically party culture rules everywhere in China, the arts have turned into this meaningless stuff.” He was touched to see the efforts of the Shen Yun performers. [Yuan Hongbing, Chinese Law Professor]: “ Even though I’m living as an expatriate, seeing this art and culture from my homeland makes all the thoughts and feelings of home rise up again. I believe that one day these Shen Yun performances will be able to return to China, the place of their cultural origin.” Shen Yun finishes its three-week run in Sydney on Wednesday night (February 23).
